From the recording Anthology
This was the earliest song with a lead vocal by Michael Alvarez and he delivers it well. With Deep Freeze,Thin Ice took a pretty bold step in a hard rock direction in the tradition of groups like Deep Purple. Frank's guitar sound naturally fitted that style and the continuous guitar riff gives the song the rough edge that it needs both under the vocal and during his powerful lead guitar solo. Deep Freeze also includes a unique Stanley Clarke influenced slap bass solo by Jon Hypes in the middle and powerful horn parts that complement the driving hard rock groove. All of these features make Deep Freeze a memorable early Thin Ice song that would become a staple of our live shows.
