Thin Ice was a rock group based in Southern California They wrote songs, played gigs and recorded extensively between the years 1977 and 1984. Most of the members of Thin Ice were no older than seventeen when the group began, They formed for the purpose of participating in the amateur music competition, the Hollywood Bowl Battle of the Bands, After winning second place in their division, they teamed with manager and producer Gene Iacono and began a 30 hour per week rehearsal schedule. In their first year they wrote nearly 25 songs and by 1979 they had become one of the top drawing acts in LA. Thin Ice were known for their professionalism, well written songs, and exciting performances at such venues as Doug Weston’s legendary Troubadour. After four years and several life changes, the group disbanded. Inspired to write again, they reunited in 1984. The death of drummer Elliott Schaeffer in that year brought an end to any further plans for the group. After nearly forty years, the decision was made to digitize, enhance and remaster 36 of Thin Ice’s original songs This anthology traces the development of the group from their earliest attempts at songwriting to their later more mature and refined work. Thin Ice wrote in many different styles and genres yet always remained themselves. The songs on this anthology reflect much of the best songwriting in the genres of jazz/rock and pop that were heard in the late 70s and early 80s. The surviving members of Thin Ice are proud to have participated in this experience together and are very happy that their music can now be heard and appreciated by new generations of listeners.
