"In the business it doesn't matter what you do...In the business, it's who you do it to." The Business was a cynical statement about the very business that Thin Ice was trying to get into, entertainment. TV talk shows of the day were populated with shallow and vapid celebrities who were always talking about their life in the business. But for some, the pursuit of a career in the "business" was not only difficult but could and often did lead to destruction. The song also reflected Thin Ice's personal struggle with the pursuit of success and our frustrations and doubts about never gaining the connections and circumstances needed to attain it. The music, mostly composed by Matt Snyder, is typically jazzy and propulsive with a climactic chorus.
